Dear gentle follower,
Thank you for your question. You asked, “Is being gay a choice?”. And I want to answer you with all the honesty, care, and love you deserve.
First of all, thank you for having the courage to ask. Questions like this come from a place of seeking understanding, and that’s a beautiful place to begin.
Let me start by saying that NO. Being gay is not a choice. It never has been. We do not choose who we are. Just like we don’t choose the color of our eyes, the rhythm of our heartbeat, or the emotions that stir when we see someone we love. Being gay is something that comes from deep within. It’s not taught, influenced, or picked. It is discovered. Quietly. Slowly. And often, painfully, because of the world we live in.
If being gay were a choice, would someone choose the path that includes being bullied, misunderstood, or judged by strangers and sometimes even by family? Would someone choose to carry fear walking down the street holding their partner’s hand? Of course not.
But here’s the thing: what is a choice, is how we respond to this truth. Do we live in fear? Or do we choose to live proudly, authentically, and with love?
Being gay is not about wanting to be “different.” It’s about simply being. Loving. Existing. And though society still has a long way to go, people like you who ask these questions, help us move toward a future filled with more understanding and compassion.
To be gay is to love in the same way anyone else does. It is loving deeply, honestly, and freely. And love, dear follower, has never been something shameful. It is a gift.
So if you’re asking because you’re unsure of yourself, or maybe you’re afraid of what you’re feeling, remember that you are not alone. You are valid. You are enough. And you are welcome here, ALWAYS.
With pride and sincerity,
