A NAME
THAT SPEAKS
IDENTITY AND POWER

In the early moments of forming a movement, there came a question:

What do we call ourselves?

And that’s when Gilbert Macalalad, a creative soul with deep pride in his identity, offered a name that would change everything: “Flock of the Third Sex.”

To some, it may have sounded bold or unfamiliar. But to us, it was a name that embraced our truth. It gave language to what many had tried to silence.

“Flock” meant we were not alone. It meant we were many, different, but together. “Third Sex,” though once used to marginalize, was reclaimed by Gilbert and the community with power and grace. It became a badge of bravery, an invitation to join, to rise, and to shine. This name gave the LGBTQIA+ community in Lobo something they hadn’t had before: a shared identity with pride. A name to say in public. A name to shout during events. A name to wear on a shirt, on a banner, in the heart.

Because when you name something with love, you give it life. And Gilbert didn’t just give us a name. He gave us a movement to believe in.
